Liza Finkelstein

Liza is the Co-Founder of FULCRUM, supporting the team’s growth and serving as a thought partner across the organization. Liza began her career as a high school English teacher for San Francisco Unified and got her formative taste of the power of evidence-based literacy instruction when she was asked to pilot a reading intervention program. She saw her students move up four grade levels in a single year and spent the next several years training other middle and high school teachers in the program.

Liza has dedicated her career to social justice and served on the advisory board of New Leaders, Bay Area—a nonprofit dedicated to training transformational leaders to turn schools around—for nearly a decade. It was here that she first worked with Kareem Weaver, and she is honored to be collaborating with him once again to bring reading instruction to the maximum number of children. While education is the great leveler, literacy is the foundation.
